You must have sometimes considered your family a love story, especially when you enjoy fantastic moments of good and fair times. If you are the type who looks for the good in people, you will find it challenging to think that someone is a bad egg. There are friendly people in your family; enjoy sharing laughter with them. These people keep you happy and help you deal with your restlessness more effectively.

However, there may be those you would never wish to spend a moment alone with because they do not add to the fun; they are too reserved and quiet. However, most of the time, people like this are excellent observers. They help you think and seeing them in their quietness reminds you to take a break and reflect on your life. No matter your personality, your family tends to give you love, hope, peace, and confidence.

The bad news is that the family is under threat from little foxes who are out to destroy the love, hope, peace, and trust that the family gives. Therefore, as a disciple committed to his family’s well-being, you must be on your guard to fight off these family destroyers, who will not only destroy the family but also cheat the members for their collective benefit. Below are a few things to avoid, amongst many.

Unforgiveness:(Leviticus 19:17-18, Mark 11:25)

An unforgiving spirit destroys your joy. Sometimes in life, there may be times of tears, and prayers to forgive others who have hurt one in some way or another, However, if it takes as much, unforgiveness steals more from the person who does not forgive. Never be like some people who think they are avenging by not forgiving people who grieve them (Hebrews 10:30, Romans 12:19) rather than leaving it to God. Unforgiveness is a thief of joy. Holds one hostage and does not allow one to be happy. When it enters and hangs, it turns people against themselves. It creates sadness in everyone’s heart for different reasons so that no one sees the need to forgive the other(Ephesians 4:31). To win against this thief, do the following:

  • Express your mind freely to anyone who hurt you(Leviticus 19:17-318, Matthew 18:15-17).
  • .Be ready to forgive whether the offender is remorseful or not. For your peace of mind(Mark 11:25) be prepared to do so as many times as necessary (Matthew 18:21-22).
  • Pray to God to help you forgive easily(Ephesians 4:26-27).

Disagreement and Arguments:(2 Timothy 2:14)

Disagreements, if left to continue, have the potential to destroy relationships and cause lasting strains(Proverbs 17:14). A family that does not disagree and argues does not exist. However, they must be handled quickly and with wisdom. This is so families do not lose their peace, love, and joy due to frequent disagreements. Disagreement and argumentation are rods against the unity and harmony of the family. Sometimes, disagreement leads to domestic violence. Therefore, do away with arguments, quarrels, and disagreements.

Bad Communication

Excellent and consistent communication within a family boosts relationships, while silence and bad communication kill relationships. Many people wish they had someone they could talk to and would have been glad if there was someone to share their burdens with. A simple hello could be all a family member needs to know they are loved. Be a talking member by:

  • Keeping all verbal communication channels open.
  • Let your words edify(Proverbs 18:21 and Colossians 4:6).
  • Call or text distance family members regularly.

Negative Emotions:(Proverbs 17:22)

Always put your positive side on display. Negative emotions such as anger, envy, jealousy, bitterness, rage, brawling, slander, etc., are like diseases that can kill whatever is good about a person. When angry, a reasonable person can be deadly and unbearable and lose respect. Therefore, it is necessary that every person, and most especially Christians, keep their emotions under control. It may be understandable if someone sometimes loses their temper, however, it must not be allowed to be left unchecked or to take away the peace and love shared with others. Doing the following helps you control your negative emotions.

  • Be nice to people who are not good to you; you can win their love.
  • Express your displeasure moderately (Ephesians 426, Proverbs14.291
  • Aroid is what makes you lose your nerves. (Proverbs 19:33)
  • Forgive quickly (Ephesians 4:31-32)
  • Pray against and do your best to overcome your negative emotions

“Resentment, the displeasure of indignation are some acts, remarks, etc. regarded as causing injury or insult “Resentment may be invisible, as anger, is; hence, it is not considered anger but results not considered anger but result from being mistreated. A victim feels ill-treated, cleaned, misjudged, and injured unjustly. Especially if the victims think their personality is on the line for it. It would be best if you find a way to handle this when it happens. Resentment is a family spoiler, but you can overcome it by

  • Being intentional about not allowing it in your heart-(Job 36:13)
  • Pray against

Complacency(Proverbs 13-4)

Complacency prevents you from trying harder and can happen to the best of people regarding family matters. Complacency may arise as people feel everything is fine or sometimes someone else will handle whatever we left unfinished To avoid it you must be:

  • Unrelenting but working even harder, therefore, get back to work, work hard, and achieve more.
  • Stay diligent. Diligence says, there is more to work for, but complacency says No! There is nothing left to work for.
  • Ungodliness (Joshua7)

There is no goodness where there is no godliness. As a Christian, you are responsible for instilling godliness in your family You must help your relatives know how much God detests and punishes sin. You will be affected one way or the other if ungodliness reigns in your camp. See the example of the Achanfamily(Joshua 7).

  • Remember, “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness”(Romans 1:18)so, guide your family against it.
  • Talking about godliness and the fruits of the Spirit and living a godly lifestyle in every family meeting or gathering. Be Christ’s disciple, a pastor to your relatives.

You must be careful to guide against anything that destroys the peace, love, and happiness your family offers. Teach others to combat this potential family destroyer, but it must start with you.

You must be vigilant to identify other things that are not mentioned, as the list is limitless. See that every new generation is taught to love God and walk, according to biblical standards. In all these things, be vigilant and persistent in your prayers. Never stop praying; keep watching out for potential foxes coming to destroy your family. Be confident of readiness to help you at any time.
