He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him; Dan. 2:22, NKJV. Despite man’s many breakthroughs in information technology, there are still many secrets that he has yet to uncover. It takes divine revelation to uncover some secrets. But no man accesses such information unless they are revealed to him by God. To be privileged to receive God’s deep and secret things, you must be a friend of God like Abraham, Joseph, Daniel, Mary, and so on, were.
What the Bible says about divine secrets
In Genesis 18:17-33, God was secretly planning to destroy the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. But because Abraham was His friend, He couldn’t carry out His plans without revealing them to Abraham. And that was the saving grace of Abraham’s nephew, Lot, who was living there. Joseph was another man who had the key to unravelling divine mysteries. By this ability, he was able to save millions of people from starving to death.
Psalm 25:14 says, ‘The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant’. That means that the fear of the Lord is a major prerequisite for knowing God’s mind. If Joseph didn’t have the fear of God, he would have slept with his master’s wife and sinned against God. The ability to keep divine secrets in your heart without disclosing it is another requirement. This was seen in the life of Mary. Despite receiving many divine secrets from God’s angel, the Bible says she kept all these things and pondered them in her heart (See Luke 2:19). If you want to become a candidate of heavenly tips and a saver of lives, you must cultivate the fear of God and become a man of few words.
Two major reasons for going to the house of God for worship are revealed in the prayer of Solomon in this passage. Solomon pleaded that God should have mercy on His people and deliver them from the hands of their enemies who might have taken them into captivity. Secondly, he appealed to God to forgive the sin of the people any time they genuinely confess, repent and turn away from their sinful ways. The two reasons are interwoven. Enemies can only succeed over God’s people when they fall into sin. No enemy has been able to overcome or conquer the Israelites except when they go astray. Sin first conquers people before the enemies prevail.
Freedom from bondage
Many Christians are fighting unending battles on mountains, churches and homes today but enemies are victorious because they lack genuine repentance. God answered the prayer of Solomon because any time the people of Israel approached God in genuine repentance; He always delivered them from their enemies. This is a big lesson for us to learn.
Are you under siege or bondage? Check your relationship with God and approach the throne of grace with a heart of genuine repentance. Do not hide your sins nor dwell in them. Rather, confess them and be restored.
Every Christian in a way and measure has received grace from God but some have outstanding grace. There is a story of a one-time criminal, drug addict, hired assassin, abuser and kidnapper; Jackson, who was caught, sentenced and jailed for 8 years. He encountered Jesus in his dreams repeatedly and finally yielded to becoming His disciple. He came out of the prison, took up his cross and followed Jesus. He became an Evangelist to his former partners in crime.
Jackson became a new person. He became a prisoner of Jesus. The gift of life and grace that he received was evident in the way he was quick to “equip” (v. 12) others so that the body of Christ may be built up” (v. 12). Jesus expects the same from you as Christians who have received grace. It is expedient for us to speak the truth in love” so that Christ may be glorified. The gifts we receive from Him are not for decoration. They are meant to edify the body of Christ.
Every Christian in a unique way and measure receives grace from God. The grace given to some stands out more than the others. You can receive the needed grace in that unpleasant situation. Depend on God. The gifts you receive from Christ are not for decoration. They are meant to edify the body of Christ.
If we are in a covenant relationship with God, we have the power of the Holy Spirit to break these chains. We can trust God with our struggles, turn them over to Him, and believe His promises.
