The words you discover are a few of what the Christian faith and practices entail. Now! Write the words in front of questions number 1-4 above using the numbers as you have them beside the diagram. If your answer is YES for question one (1), then write YES, and put the word LOVE in the bracket in front of question one. That means you are a Christian with love in your heart. Do the same for all the questions to discover what Christianity is, and the kind of a Christian you are. This will also help you to know where you need to improve in your Christian life.

To be a true child of God, one must the commandments of God. God demands that His children must exhibit virtues that are in Christ Christianity is a way of life for people who have given their lives to Jesus Christ, as their Saviour and Lord. People who have chosen Jesus Christ are not expected to live like those who are still following Satan. Their actions and attitudes must be different. They must live as Jesus Christ lived. Do you know how Jesus Christ lived while He was on earth? In the previous lesson, we discussed the study topics about the Christian faith. Today, we shall learn about what God expects of you as the basic practices of the Christian faith.

Common practices of the Christian faith

  1. Love: One of the famous practices of the Christian faith is to love as God loves so much that He gave His only Son (Jesus Christ) to die for the sins of everyone (John 3:16). Therefore, it is expected of every Christian to love everyone they come across(Luke10:27).1 Corinthians 24:1 says, “Pursue love and be eager for the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.”
  2. Obedience: A simple way to define obedience is to ‘do as you are told’. It means carrying out instructions promptly. Christians must obey God always. They must simply live their lives based on God’s instructions. To know how God wants you to live or what He wants for you as a child, simply read the Bible regularly. There, you will find the will of God for your daily living, and be sure to live accordingly.
  3. Giving: Giving is sharing what you have with others. After giving your life to God, you are expected to share what you have with others around you as a Christian. You are to give to the poor and needy around you. And give to God through your tithe and offering in the church. Meanwhile, you are expected to give more than money. Your time, gifts, skills, and talent can be used for the glory of God. God wants all of you because He is the One who gave you all that you have including your life and every other resource. Therefore, as a Christian, you must be generous by giving to God and the people around you. This is a good way to show that you are a child of God.
  4. Faith: Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see” (Hebrew 11:1). Faith in God is believing in God without waiting for proof. It is by faith in Christ that we receive life and forgiveness for our sins. It is the faith that saves us and makes us Christians. No one is a Christian truly without faith in God.
  5. Demonstration of Spiritual Gifts: Christians are given several gifts by the Holy Spirit. These are called spiritual gifts or gifts of the spirit. These gifts enable the Christian to please God, live a Holy life and do things that glorify God. The gifts make the Christians more powerful spiritually and help one another to grow in the faith more comfortably together. These gifts include gifts of prophecy, word of wisdom, knowledge, vision, speaking in tongues, interpretation of tongue, discernment of spirit, etc. (1 Corinthians12:7-11;1 Corinthians 14). Every Christian must discover their spiritual gift and use them to edify the body of Christ. Every gift received is to be used to bring glory to God.

Conclusion: God expects you to live as a true Christian, You must love others, share what you have with them, especially the needy, and give to God’s work. Be obedient to God always; have faith in God and use your gift(s) to bless others and bring glory to God.

The Christian Faith is the Only Way to God

Many prophets in the Bible were sent to God’s people at different times whenever God wanted to speak to His people, the Israelites. God did not call any of them His Son. It was only Jesus Christ that He publicly affirmed His sonship at River Jordan. And that testimony affirmed Christ as the only way to God, the Father (Matthew 3:17). Everything Jesus did while on earth pointed to the fact that He came from His Father and that He came to do God’s will. So, Jesus sets an example for us to follow. If we say we are children of God, we should live like Christ. Today, our lesson is on why Christ is the ONLY way to God.

The Foundation of the Christian Faith: By nature, everyone is a sinner and deserves to die. But because God loves us so much, He gave us His Son, Jesus Christ to suffer and die for our sins. Jesus received our punishment and was nailed on the cross for our sake. He died and rose on the third day. Therefore, through His death and resurrection, everyone who accepts Him as Lord and Saviour receives forgiveness and is set free forever (John 3:16;1 Corinthians 15:3-4). The Christian faith is established upon Jesus Christ. Christians are those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord. They are those who are living like Jesus.

They live according to the will of God for them, especially as recorded in the holy Bible which is the Word of God. Jesus Christ is the only way to God; no other name is given to people that they can be saved except through the name of Jesus (Acts 4:12). It means that if anyone wants to come to Gad or Lord. As a child, you need to trust Jesus and his saving power. You have to invite Jesus into your heart and make Him your best friend. Then, you will become a child of God. Anyone who refuses to accept Jesus is not known by God and cannot become a child of God. This is what the Christian faith is about, and it is the only way to God.

The Demands of the Christian Faith: The demands of the Christian faith are enormous. It is a duty that is not easy for anyone who has not surrendered his life to Christ to do. First, after surrendering one’s life to Christ, one must be obedient totally and promptly. Everything God commands must be obeyed. A true Christian cannot waver between pleasing God and pleasing Satan.

So, the Christian faith calls for total surrender to God. These are what it takes to be a Christian. Nevertheless, God has provided grace to help believers fulfill His demands with the help of the Holy Spirit. God’s demand is for everyone to love Him and other people wholeheartedly, to obey and do His will, and to live generously toward other people, especially the poor.

More importantly, to accept and put our faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, and follow His precepts. Every believer in Christ must live as Jesus lived. Doing this will certainly make God happy and attract unbelievers to Christ. They will put their faith in God by accepting Jesus because of you (Matthew 5:14), just as the people believed because of what they saw Jesus did. Read again John 14:16.

Conclusion: God wants everyone to be saved and to live with Him in heaven where there is eternal peace and comfort. That is why He gave us Jesus to die for the sins of everyone. Anyone who accepts Jesus is God’s beloved child. You need to accept Jesus to enjoy this good life. After that, live righteously and invite others to become Christians through your words (preach to them) and actions (lifestyle). Jesus is the only provision of God to save the entire world. Faith in Christ Jesus is the foundation of the Christian practices.
