To start good things is very laudable but to keep it up is more. Fellow servants of God, let us highlight a few truths that are very germane in keeping our flag flying as we walk the talk with the master.

1. Give no room to unequal yoke and ungodly compromise.

2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV) Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what? fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? Remain loyal to Christ and him alone. Let nothing make you join the multitude to do evil. This is very important, never to lose sight of your position as an elder. Don’t be bought by whatever influence because Christ will not be honoured.

2. Be careful of your light becoming dim

God can keep everyone from day one till the end but each must learn constant abiding. A dim light cannot engender effective service; it will be a mixture of darkness and light. Keep your light glowing? Avoid the unwise virgin experience who failed to journey with extra fuel.

Matthew 25:1-2, 6-8, 10 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and… Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8. And the foolish said unto the wise, give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. 10. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut….. Never outgrow regular learning and fellowship with God’s people with your entire family.

3. Be careful of people making God out of you.

This is an unguided lifestyle and unwarranted self or ego display. No matter how much help from the Lord and how blessed you are with wisdom. Remember that heavenly wisdom is always pure, simple and godly. No unnecessary attention to self.

The organization (the church) must not be tied to your apron, after all, you are a steward and transient. James 3:17: “But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace-loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favouritism and is always sincere.” As God uses you, your light continues to shine but learn to take regular instructions from God rather than fleshly or ego display and be humble. Deacon, why unnecessary attention and questions from you? Such as “I am not told…, no one carries me along…,I must have input…, It cannot work that way except this…, etc” Fellow servants of God, the beauty of experience, excellence, and grace of wisdom is peace, large-heartedness, calmness and little talk. Present your ideas as counsel and suggestions and wait until you are consulted, you will forever remain relevant and honoured. This is very important especially when you have rotated out of the office or the matter is very sensitive or professional.

4. Watch against immoral and ungodly acts.

Immorality is evil, sinful, or otherwise called wrong behaviour. It is sometimes addressed as wickedness and servant of God which you should avoid. This is for all. It must be noted that no one is above temptations. No immunity is available for anyone other than regular. Deal with a carefree life and overconfidence. The devil is still hunting morally wrong behaviour such as rape, incest, murder, slavery, genocide, adNote these years (NET) Let us live decently as in sensuality, not in discord and jealousy. 1 Corinthians 5:1(NET) It is reported that sexual immorality among the Gentiles so that someone is cohabiting with his father’s wife.

5. Be filled with the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is our great enabler, no Christian must dissociate from Him. There must be absolute dependence and trust in the Holy Spirit. This by implication means that such a leader wants to remain dynamic and relevant.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. Eph 5:18: “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life.

Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,” Acts 16:9. A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”

A deacon filled with the Holy Spirit will not only be strong and vibrant spiritually but also be instructed, and guided step by step on what next to do. A vessel truly submitted to the Holy Spirit will be found doing the will of God and walking in his way.

6. Keep getting rooted in Christ.

You will recall that a new person in faith should not be ordained as Deacons for many reasons. Still, the growing Christian that is ordained must not be stagnant, he must keep growing deeper in the love of Jesus. This will enable him to continue to display maturity. Hear the specific instructions of Paul to these two churches;

Col 2:6-7:”And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”

Eph 3:17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, Being rooted is very necessary because there shall be a lot of trials and temptations, storms and demonic attacks. It is the strong root that brings stability and grace. This is one of the reasons why some Deaconates change worship centres anyhow. A well-rooted deacon will have a strong commitment to prayers. I counsel all of you, the servant leaders to follow the pattern of fervency in prayers like Elijah the Tisbites. Fervent prayer is a strong and meaningful trait in the life and ministries of a Deacon that carries the light and life of Jesus Christ.

Conclusion

Leaders carrying the light and life of Christ will be very easy for a man who develops a heart of trust in the mercy of God – that this ministry is by mercy and not just by merit. Also, such must continue to grow in the grace of God. This he will do through endurance and perseverance with the brethren to keep the flag flying with a heart filled with love always to accommodate and forgive all men. Regular yearning and involvement in things that bring progress will make him. Andrew Wommack has the full support of the Trinitarian God and the entire congregation. Do your best to see your light shining and your life impactful till He comes. Grace to you all.
