There is an event from which the health and diet of the people are discussed in a big venue in Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria. Different professional and motivational speakers were invited to give talks on health and diets. I was invited to the seminar too to witness every section of the seminar. One of the speakers, Pastor GokeAdesoye, also an expert in using herbal medicine with knowledge of God to cure different kinds of diseases and sicknesses enlightens the attendees on the support of God in using orthodox and herbal medicine to heal our ailments and cure our diseases. The Man of God talked on the Topic entitled “You, Your Health and Your Diet”. Read through these Bible verses before going through the seminar.3 John 10: 31, 1 Corinthians 10: 31, 1 Timothy 4: 8, Proverbs 31: 17, Ephesians 5: 18, Jeremiah 33: 6, Acts 27: 34, Proverbs 4: 320-22.
You, Your Health, and Your Diet
“You” here means your entire being. i.e.Spirit, Soul, and Body. Biblically speaking, when I say “you”, I mean to refer to your total being.
The best wealth ever everyone must be running after is good health. This means complete wholeness in the spirit, soul, and body. A healthy body is a wealthy body and good food is good health.
According to the English contemporary dictionary, health is a state in which a person is not suffering from any illness and is feeling well. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Health is defined as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. That is to say, that, to be healthy is to be whole spirit, soul, and body. Total Health: means wellness/wholeness in the spirit, soul, and body.Total Health in The Three Realms: 1 The. 5:23
Spirit: The only way one can have wellness in the spirit is through salvation. Read this Bible verse: Rom 10:9-10.
Soul: Red this Bible verses: Rom 12:1-2. From the bible passage quoted above, the renewing of one’s mind comes by subjecting the mind to the Word of God for refining.
Body: Read this Bible verse: Luke 10:30-35. Our body is the house of both the spirit and the soul. Therefore, it must be kept in good health condition for us to have perfect and effective function of the spirit and soul.
God’s Perspective on Good Health
Scripturally speaking, God takes delight in us being in good health. Bible says, Bible says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in good health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 2). According to above quoted Scripture, God wants us to be in good health and prosper in whatever we are doing: Therefore, sickness and Diseases are aberrations to the plan of God for mankind.
God’s Perspective on Orthodox and Herbal Treatment
Orthodox or Western treatment is the one being carried out by medical doctors fully trained in the Western type of medicine while the herbal or alternative treatment is being used by anybody who has studied and understood the use of herbs to cure diseases. I am glad to say that God supports the two ways of treatment. Check the following scriptures to attest to this truth. Luke 10:30-35, Gen: 1:29-30, Psalm 104:14, Eze 47:12,Isa 55:2
What Is Diet?
A diet is a combination of foods that supply all that the body needs for well-being: And this combination must be in the right proportion so as to have good results. i.e. a balanced diet that must contain carbohydrates, Lipid, protein, minerals, vitamins, and water in their complete and right proportion.
The kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats for living healthy. It is a special course of food to which a person restricts themselves for medical reasons.
Formulae for Healthy Living
To live healthily: you must eat right, act right, exercise right, and think right. “You are what you eat”To eat right means to eat food that puts the body in an alkaline position to eat wrong is to eat any food that puts your body in an acidic position. The major cause of sicknesses and diseases is the acidity of the body. Therefore, everyone must create healthy habits to avoid sickness.
Habits to Create to Avoid Sicknesses and Diseases
1. Act right – Putting up a dietary plan to keep you healthy. e.g.Goodfood timetable. More often than not, we eat just to quench the taste or appetite for food as much as we are hungry. Therefore, care should be taken on the things we eat, where we eat, and the time we eat them. According to nutritional scientists, they said that the human body reacts positively or negatively to the food we eat based on three time factors.
First Time Factor: This will be taken between 4 a.m. and 12 p.m. This is the period of light food. Soluble food such as tea, coffee, Vegetable juice, Fruit, and juice are unsuitable at this period for proper nutrient observation.
Second Time Factor/Period of Heavy Food: This will be taken between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. This is the period that heavy food; the food such as carbohydrates and some heavy starch.
The third time factor is known as the free food period: This will be taken between (8 pm and 4 am. Simple foods are to be eaten during this period. It is the period for digestion and releasing the waste products from the food eaten to be stored up for excretion later on. So, eating heavy food very late in the night is not proper for digestion and early absorption.
2. Exercise right: Exercise is vital for our bodies because our bodies do not function well without exercise. It is good for proper blood circulation, it makes muscles to be strong, it helps the tissue cells to become elastic, and makes the heart gain strength.
3. Think Right: It means positive thinking. The Bible says as a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Prov. 23:7). Negative thinking brings toxin to our bloodstream that leads to many diseases such as fatigue, peptic ulcer, hypertension, diabetes, Insomnia, cancer, etc.
Types of Diet
1. Therapeutic Diet: This diet is designed to treat or heal a disease or illness e.g. carrot, Moringa leaf, and tomato can be used to treat eye problems, while carrot, tomatoes, cucumber, watermelon, onion, and jute (Ewedu) to treat cancer cases.
2. A Maintenance Diet: The kind of food/diet used in our everyday life for keeping our body intact, such as fruits and vegetables.
3. An Experimental Diet: The diet used for research purposes. This may not be commercially available to the public.
Food for the Elderly People
They can eat wide varieties of foods from the five food groups, but plenty of vegetables, legumes/beans, fruits, grain (cereal) foods, mostly whole grain and high fiber food, lean meats, poultry, fish, nuts, and seed and mostly fruits, vegetables, and potatoes.
Food for the Young People
Young people can still eat starchy food such as potatoes, bread, rice, pasta, fruits and vegetables.
Importance of Eating Right
1. The right foods keep our bodies alive. As fuel is to vehicles, so is good food to our body, especially raw fruits and vegetables.
2. It makes us to be immune to sicknesses and diseases.
3. It aids our body’s efficiency. It maintains the efficiency of the body device that untimely improves the performance of the body optimally.
