“Pattern” means form or structure. Therefore, the pattern of prayer can be defined as the form or structure that a prayer must follow. There are different patterns of prayer that we see today but not all the patterns are right. The disciples had watched Jesus pray many times. The more they watched, the more they began to wonder why His pattern of prayer was probably not like theirs. Even though the disciples had grown up in the synagogue and knew how to pray, they observed that something seemed different about Jesus’ pattern of prayer. So, they asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. Jesus responded to His disciples’ requests by outlining the points we should include in our prayers and the pattern of prayer we should adopt.
