One of the things that has heavily traumatised the human race is fear. More specifically, fear of not having enough or all they want or desire. Somehow in the course of our evolution through several political and economic reforms, many people have developed and even inherited the fear and trauma of not having enough to sustain them or for all other sorts of purposes.
On one such occasion when Jesus Christ gave a teaching about the kingdom of God, he made mention of how God’s power can take care of the entire human needs. Jesus particularly made mention of how the birds of the air do not get to toil or spin, yet somehow their daily needs are taken care of by God the creator of all.
If God’s word touched on our provision, then you wonder today why there is so much fear today regarding the subject matter or issue of provision -even- among Christians?
Wrongdoings of many and the influence of unclean spirits had brought about creating a whirlpool of lack that seem to have plagued not only the Christian community but the human race as well. Humans and Christians have known about the idea of God since they were young, but very few have a faintly grounded knowledge and idea of how God has been the one miraculously taking care of their affairs and the rest of the human race.
So despite the abundant nature of God and the way it is reflected in the way Earth operates, why is there still a stronghold of lack and disbelief in the provisional nature and power of God amongst believers?
In an attempt to describe God’s perfect love towards us humans, Jesus Christ in one of his teachings said we are worth more than many sparrows.
Matthew 10:28-31 says, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill… 29 Are not two,. 30. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more…
First of all, we should establish at this point that fear is an underlying factor of a Christian not having faith or believing in the fact that his or her wants and provisions are meant to come from God.
In our daily lives, because we have jobs and we have tasks to do and get paid for doing them, we get caught up in the idea that we’re providing for ourselves, taking care of ourselves and feeding ourselves.
If God hadn’t given us life and existence then what would have happened? How would it have been possible that we would have a life or lives to take care of in the first place?
Matthew 6:25, “Therefore I tell you,…, what you will eat or drink; or…?
In the bible text, Jesus teaches not to even worry about the body. Because we humans get to bath our bodies, cream our bodies and do all sorts of skincare routines for our bodies we might get to fall into the unconscious belief that we’re the ones taking care of the body and that whatever is it that’s making the body look like or be in whatever state it is, it’s a result of our magic formulas.
Yes, we might have relevant knowledge about health and wellness and skincare routines, but it doesn’t still negate the fact that we didn’t get the body we have by ourselves. Even the body which the bible calls the temple of the holy ghost is a gift of (and from) God. So what’s stopping God from taking the body that he has given to us as a gift? Or is it us that’s not allowing God to take care of the bodies he has given to us as gifts? Fear and getting to believe that we’re in charge of things (when we’re not in charge of much as we’ve always thought) are also things that could prevent us from experiencing God’s provision and providence as designed by him.
Luke 12:7: “Indeed, the very hairs… Don’t be afraid; you are worth…”
Even as much as we might think or claim to be in charge of things and as much as we might also think we’re in charge of our affairs and running the course of our lives, we don’t know as much as we think we might know. We don’t even know the number of the hair on our heads.
There are several stories from or in the holy bible that made known the provisional power and authority of God. There are a good number of times in the bible where miracles of provision were delivered by the power of God.
God miraculously supplied manna to the Israelites on their escape from Egypt and the Egyptians. The one thing that’s interesting about this story and the miracle of provision from God is that God supplied the Israelites with food in great abundance. They had enough to last till the next day but they were instructed by God not to keep till the next day.
In the book of Matthew 6:34 KJV Jesus Christ says to his audience: 34 “Take therefore no thought for the morrow… Sufficient unto the day…f.
One thing that’s common in the Christian community and at the same time of the things that’s gradually starving the faith of many christians today is the attitude of constantly thinking about tomorrow. The-thinking-about-tomorrow culture is something that might have been birthed out of the 21st-century productivity idea of planning ahead of time. But thinking about tomorrow in a fear-inducing way by the standards of the word of faith and by the ordinances of the word of God isn’t right for a believer to indulge in.
Luke 12:16-21: And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops….”
In the bible passage above, Jesus speaks about a man, a rich man who’s planning to expand his barn while his heart is asleep to God. Aside from the Bible exemplifying and letting us know that without faith it’s impossible to please God, one of the requirements of being in or entering into the kingdom of God is to devote your heart, soul, and mind to God.
Matthew 22:37: “Jesus replied: “’ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul….’
All of those faculties (heart, soul,& mind) of living and being a human must be committed to worshipping God and God alone in anything and everything that’s done through the body.
